This is a scheme being run by Littlehampton & District Foodbank in partnership with The Littlehampton Academy and The Angmering School. It aims to provide lunches throughout the longer school holidays (Christmas, Easter and summer) for students who receives free school meals.
What is it?
For some children their school lunch is the only decent meal of the day. During the school holidays this meal is unavailable, and for many families the need to provide an extra five meals a week per school-age child can push them over the edge of what they can afford. The Littlehampton Lunchbox project aims to relieve that pressure by providing 10 meals per fortnight throughout the Christmas, Easter and summer holidays, with the contents of the box taken from the foodbank’s usual stock of non-perishable food.
How can children take part?
Each eligible student will receive information about how to access the scheme. The boxes will be given out three times during the summer holidays (eligible families can take part once, twice or all three times), and once for the Christmas and Easter holidays.
How can you help?
In order to run this project successfully and provide lunch for all the children who need lunches during the school holidays we need food donations. These can be dropped off at our usual collection points around the area or at one of our upcoming supermarket collections. If people prefer to give money to help us buy food for the project they can also do that, and we would welcome offers of storage space too.
